As part of the Ruth Pauley Lecture Series, Christopher Evans, professor of the History of Christianity and Methodist Studies at the Boston University School of Theology, will discuss "Churches in Crisis: The Future of Christianity in America" on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Owens Auditorium at Sandhills Community College.
Evans, author of "Liberalism without Illusions" and "The Faith of Fifty Million: Baseball, Religion, and America Culture," will provide insights into the growing crisis facing mainstream religion.
Dr. Evans teaching and scholarship focuses on the history of Christianity, American religion, United Methodist history, and ministry studies. His most recent book, Histories of American Christianity: an Introduction will be published by Baylor University Press in 2013. An ordained elder in the Upper New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, Dr. Evans has lectured, preached, and taught in numerous church and professional settings and been a presenter at several academic conferences.
